Our History
Hospice of Peel, Inc. began in 1985 when Ms. Laurie Bennett, a palliative care professional at a local hospital, realized the need for a community service to help clients like hers live at home at the end of their lives. Hospice was organized on her dining room table that year with one Client Volunteer training program and 18 terminally ill clients served in their homes.
To Bennett's credit the quality and breadth of Hospice services have never faltered! Since its establishment, Hospice of Peel has served over 8,300 terminally ill and over 25,300 of their family members in Mississauga and Brampton. Bennett retired in April 2000, leaving a well-established groundwork for the future growth of the agency. Today the agency consists of a service-delivery team of 12 staff and 300 Volunteers serving approximately 700 clients and 2100 family members.
